Prefect Blaž Pezo

Blaž Pezo (born on 4 October 1978) has served as the County Prefect of Dubrovnik-Neretva County since June 2025.

As the head of the County administration, he leads the development of Croatia’s southernmost county, represents its interests and oversees the work of the County administration with the aim of improving the quality of life for all its residents.

His mandate is founded on the principles of responsible, transparent and inclusive governance, with a strong emphasis on cooperation with cities and municipalities, national institutions, the business community, educational and research institutions, civil society organisations, and international partners. He is particularly committed to the balanced development of all parts of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, recognising the unique characteristics and needs of each area – from Konavle, Župa Dubrovačka and Dubrovačko Primorje, through the Neretva Valley and the Pelješac Peninsula, to the islands of Korčula, Lastovo and Mljet.

Holding a degree in Economics, he has built extensive professional experience in public administration, infrastructure management and the business sector. Prior to his election as County Prefect, he served as Director of the Dubrovnik Port Authority (2017–2025), where he oversaw the development of one of Croatia’s most important passenger ports and a major international transport hub. From 2010 to 2017, he was Head of the Administrative Department for the County Prefect and the County Assembly of Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Earlier in his career, he gained valuable experience in the insurance sector, including in senior management positions.

As County Prefect, he is committed to implementing projects that support the County’s long-term development and improve the quality of life of its residents. His key priorities include improving transport connectivity, strengthening the healthcare and education systems, supporting economic development, agriculture, fisheries, and maritime affairs, promoting sustainable tourism, protecting the environment and preserving the rich natural and cultural heritage of Dubrovnik-Neretva Region.

Before assuming the office of County Prefect, he was actively involved in the work of professional and sports organisations. He currently serves as Vice President of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Football Association and remains committed to the development of sport and sports infrastructure throughout the County.

He believes that a successful county is built on cooperation, responsibility and mutual trust, and that sustainable development can only be achieved through the joint efforts of all stakeholders. Guided by these principles, he is dedicated to creating new opportunities for young people and families, fostering economic growth, strengthening public services and ensuring the balanced development of all parts of Dubrovnik-Neretva County.
